Among the best locations for investment in Europe
|
For many years Salzburg’s economy has occupied a leading position in Austria. On a European scale the land is one of the most dynamic regions. In a recent survey of European regions Salzburg is listed as one of the top locations for investments. The above-average level of economic performance - based on flexible small and intermediate concerns, an advantageous variety of industries as well as a number of positive location factors - is reflected in the data on economic performance. From 1995 to 2002 the Gross Regional Product of Salzburg has risen on an average of 3.5 per cent as opposed to the overall Austrian GNP of 3.3 per cent. In 2002 the Gross Regional Product of Salzburg reached 15.97 billion Euro. The tertiary sector (commerce, tourism, private and public services, financial, legal and economic services as well as asset management) dominates economic performance with a share of more than 70 per cent. The primary sector (industry, trade and building) contributes about (30 per cent) one fourth to the Gross Regional Product, and finally agriculture, mining as well as energy production contribute more than four per cent.

Salzburg’s economy is strongly export-oriented, especially exports to the member countries of the EU. Salzburg’s economic leading position also becomes clear if the gross regional product is examined in relation to the population figures. With a net economic product of close to 29,200 Euro per inhabitant, Salzburg in 2002 again surpassed the Austrian average value of about 25,500 Euro per inhabitant but also clearly above the average of the EU and OECD countries. The employment situation is favourable and the unemployment rate correspondingly low - for years it has been under five per cent and is thus the second lowest of all Austrian lands. These two factors are further evidence of the considerable economic strength of Salzburg land. |
