Winter tourism in Salzburg

Salzburg is just as much appreciated as a holiday location in winter as in summer. About half of the holidaymakers in Salzburg come during the winter season. Salzburg’s ski resorts are regarded by many guests as an absolute paradise. More than 580 modern cable cars and lifts, 1700 kilometres of excellently prepared slopes and 2200 kilometres of cross-country trails offer winter sports enthusiasts endless opportunities for enjoyment. Since 1983 legal regulations have prevented the development of glacier regions and since 1989 a moratorium has prevented the large-scale opening up of new ski areas in the territory of Salzburg. Nevertheless, improvements are constantly being made to raise standards of comfort and frequency on the lifts and cable cars.
