Unspoilt countryside is the most important resource

The most important resource for tourism in Salzburg is the land’s unspoilt countryside with its unique natural charms, such as can be found for example in the 804 square kilometres of the Salzburg section of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Successful efforts are being made in Salzburg to preserve nature as a basis for an existence. A third of the land, including the national park, has been declared a conservation and special protection area. Leisure and recreation activities, the beautiful Baroque jewel of Salzburg’s old town centre and the charms of many other communities, as well as the wide range of cultural activities in Salzburg, the world famous festival city and centre of music and the arts, and excellent standards in the hotel and catering industry provide something to suit everyone’s tastes and desires. Skiing, mountaineering, attending the Festival or simply relaxing – everything is possible in the “Small Paradise”, as tourism managers like to describe their land.
