As a result of the regional election on 1 March 2009 the SPÖ (Social Democratic Party of Austria) has 15 seats, the ÖVP (Austrian People's Party) 14 and the FPÖ ("Freiheitliche" Party of Austria) 5 seats in the regional parliament, the Green Party has two seats. Simon Illmer (ÖVP) is the president of the regional parliament, Gudrun Mosler-Törnström (SPÖ) is Vice-President. In its constituent meeting on 22 April 2009 the Salzburg regional parliament re-elected Gabi Burgstaller (SPÖ) as State President (Landeshauptfrau). In addition to Burgstaller, three other representatives of the SPÖ and three representatives of the ÖVP are members of the current regional government. President Gabi Burgstaller’s area of responsibility covers labour market policy matters, the directorate of regional offices (Landesamtsdirektion), the cabinet – including powers for dealing with catastrophes – the fire brigades, science, innovation and research, education and schools, and also subjects specifically related to women as well as European affairs. Deputy-President Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) is responsible in the government for economy and tourism, management research, transport, building industry, municipality administration, museums and special cultural projects. Deputy-President David Brenner (SPÖ) is responsible for the administration of finance and capital, the arts and sport. Further members of the regional government are: Sepp Eisl, ÖVP (agriculture and forestry, hunting and fishing, conservation, water management and river regulation, energy, staff management and administrative reform); Walter Blachfellner, SPÖ (housing, water protection, consumer protection, trade, environment protection, regional development planning); Tina Widmann, ÖVP (young people, family, children, senior citizens, national parks, municipal development, cultural heritage, integration, popular culture) and Mag. Cornelia Schmidjell, SPÖ (social affairs, homes and institutions run by Land Salzburg as well as health including the hospitals and clinics under the jurisdiction of Land Salzburg.
